Peter Barker is a Perth based artist who studied the techniques of classical realism at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence. He continued his studies as an assistant to the master Norwegian figurative painter Odd Nerdrum. Having learnt the craft of the old European masters, he uses these Renaissance and 19th century techniques in his painting practice. Peter stretches and prepares his canvases using the best materials and paints with an emphasis on quality.
Completing the transition from student to master, Peter has started the Perth Art Academy. He teaches and passes on traditional techniques to new and enthusiastic students, while continuing his own work specialising in portraiture, still lifes and landscapes.
Peter Barker’s work can be found in the Kerry Stokes collection as well as many private collections around the world. He has exhibited extensively and been a finalist in numerous prestigious awards such as the Perth Black Swan, Mandorla and A.M.E. Bale travelling scholarship.
Peter will be exhibiting at Harvison Gallery in May 2015. His works are available at the gallery for viewing upon request.
