Cynthia Ellis is a Perth based artist who recently won the 2014 Town of Claremont Art Award. Her distinctive style involves thick, textural applications of oil paint which create emotive and reflective works. The luscious layers take several months to dry and the combination of three dimensional form and vibrant oil colour tempt viewers to touch when they really shouldn’t.
Cynthia studied Fine Art at the University of Western Australia and has undertaken numerous artist residencies including one in China. She was commissioned to produce large works for the foyers of corporate buildings in Perth, including Alluvion and the Commonwealth Bank Building, and has also produced a ‘Poles’ sculpture for the Japanese restaurant area on St Georges Terrace.
Cynthia Ellis will be exhibiting a collection of new works at Harvison Gallery in September 2015. This exhibition will explore the Western Australian landscape of light through four seasons.
